Welcome to Mr. Strohman's Blog

Derek Strohman received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in December of 1998 from Wayne State College. Derek conducted his student teaching at Cody Elementary in the Millard School District teaching fifth grade. After completing his student teaching experience he accepted a position as a long- term substitute, again in a fifth grade classroom, at Harvey Oaks Elementary. In the fall of 1999 he accepted a position with Westside Community Schools teaching 6th grade at Hillside Elementary.

Most recently Derek has gained experience as the owner and operator of the Sylvan Learning Center in Fremont, NE where he was able to work in many areas. He gained experience working with children ranging in age from 4 to 19 years old. He diversified his experience by working with students who struggled and also those that were looking for more of a challenge. He worked daily with parents, students, teachers, and administrators to help facilitate an individual plan to help each of his students attending Sylvan. Derek is very excited to have the opportunity to get back into a classroom and teach 6th grade again!

Derek has always had an interest in technology and while teaching at Hillside Elementary he incorporated it into the classroom whenever possible. In 2009 Derek’s love of learning took him back into the classroom as a student at the University of Nebraska – Omaha where he began his coursework for an endorsement in technology. Derek is also working toward his Masters degree in Education Administration. He is very excited to incorporate his experiences that he has gathered over the past 12 years and utilize them in his new classroom.

Derek is also a proud father of 4 and loves spending time with his family. He enjoys listening to music, playing guitar, being outside, and he loves ice hockey! Go Blackhawks!
